Check out Bicycling’s June, 2008 issue. In the With the Editor section, Bicycling’s editor, Steve Madden, writes an article titled Clarity. In this article, Madden discusses his new found vision following LASIK surgery performed by Dr. Silverman. He discusses his 26 year dependence on glasses and what it means to be riding a bike glasses-free, “It’s no small thing to be able to see where you’re going on a bike… and to know that mud, sweat, or rain won’t slow you down.
Madden says in his article: “The only person I didn’t curse wasn’t even on the ride; he was back home in New Jersey. Dr. Cary Silverman performed LASIK surgery on my eyes last December, painlessly eliminating a 26-year dependence on glasses–contacts always grossed me out– that had, at various times, turn my favorite outdoor activities into near-blind gropes…Because I was nearsighted, Silverman said, I was a good candidate for the procedure. And he was a good candidate to perform it: Silverman was a pioneer in LASIK, and he’s operated on about 8,000 people with sterling results. When I woke up the morning after the surgery, I could see without glasses better than I had since I was a senior in high school. My eyesight is now 20/15.“
Here from just a few of Dr. Silverman’s patients on their LASIK experiences:
- Michael: “It was a fantastic experience. I was very, very, apprehensive about doing it, nervous, but thankfully you checked me once, double-checked me twice to make sure I was really a candidate for it because I know it’s borderline. The procedure went fantastic and it’s been the best decision I’ve made in the last 3 years. It’s a gift, everyday I think about it; it’s been a pleasure not to have to wear glasses constantly, being able to see everywhere I go. I like motor sports, biking, swimming, and not having to be stuck with glasses constantly has been a tremendous blessing. The freedom it gives me has been incredible.”
- Jordan Fithian USA Handball: “Seeing without contacts and glasses is unbelievable. It’s like Dr. Silverman’s a miracle worker, the staff here is great, he’s great, it took him 8 minutes to fix my vision for life, and its a pretty incredible experience…It’s going to improve my game immensely. I’m not gonna have foggy contacts, I’m not gonna have contacts that rip and fall out or I’m not going to have to go out of a game to fix a contact or put a new contact in; I can stay in the game, see better, catch the ball better, and see better all around.”
- Dan, Pitcher for the Colorado Rockies: “It’s probably been the best thing I’ve ever done, I’m not just saying that, it’s honestly been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. For my game in terms of a physical point of view, being able to zone in on the catcher, being able to hit, run and throw without having to worry about my contacts falling out, and being able to have 20/20 vision has just been a blessing. In terms of the everyday, traveling, waking up in the morning and not having to worry about contacts…it’s great.”
