Since the Academy Awards air on Sunday, I thought I’d take the opportunity to share my top favorite movies list for Best Picture! I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a bit of a movie buff, and these four are my absolute favorites this year. Any one of these movies would be a great choice for Best Picture. Hopefully the Academy agrees with me!
1. Whiplash
This movie is a dark horse, and my favorite movie of the year. It’s the story of a teen who’s a gifted musician, but who is mentored by a teacher who believes in teaching through humiliation rather than encouragement. Gripping.
2. The Imitation Game
The Imitation Game is a great story about breaking the enigma code in WWII. As a group of English mathematicians work to break the code, their leader has to hide his homosexuality in order to escape arrest.
3. American Sniper
This movie is very timely, with the trial of Kyle’s killer starting now. It’s also very controversial; it makes one question what we were ever doing over there in Iraq to begin with. It follows the story of Chris Kyle’s four deployments, and all the struggles they led to in his personal life.
4. The Theory of Everything
The Theory of Everything is a great story about Stephen Hawking and how he and his wife dealt with the onset and progression of his disease. Eddie Redmayne really deserves the Oscar for his incredible portrayal of Hawking!
Have you seen all of these great movies? Now’s your chance, before the Academy Awards on Sunday! Make tonight a movie night, or spend tomorrow in a marathon movie session, getting caught up on the best films of the year. You won’t regret it, I promise!
And once you’ve watched them all, let me know what you thought. Do you think my top four are the best choices, too? What are your top picks? Share your thoughts with us on our Facebook page, or in the comments section below!
