Don’t let a vision accident spoil your winter fun this season.
The winter season is a favorite time for many―getting to visit with family and friends over the holidays, taking a much-needed break from the stress of work and school, and enjoying all of the fun activities and opportunities that the change in weather often brings with it. Whether you are most looking forward to breaking out your snowboard or skis and hitting the slopes this winter, or you would rather curl up inside with a good book by the fire, make sure you enjoy the holiday season for all that it has to offer.
However, in between the delicious holidays dinners with family and clinking of champagne glasses on New Years, be sure that you are also taking proper care of your vision this season. The winter time can bring with it many unsafe situations or risky weather conditions that could have a significant impact on the health and clarity of your vision.
Luckily, by taking proper preventative steps before you become caught up in the chaos and busyness of the holiday season, you can ensure that your winter activities are not interrupted by an unwelcome eye injury or vision problem. Here are just a few situations where you should take extra care and precaution of your vision during the upcoming holiday season:
Child Vision Safety
During the excitement of family holiday parties, children are often running around with their favorite family members, sneaking a look at presents under the tree and just generally living up to the merriness and stimulation that comes with the holidays. However, when your winter parties are full of champagne glasses being toasted, chestnuts roasting on the fire and bulbs being hung up on the tree, it is important that you pay extra special attention to the children in your lives to make sure that no vision accidents happen during their fun holiday play.
Eyes Vulnerable To Dryness
Our eyes depend on moisture for their greatest comfort. Unfortunately, the combination of the windy winter winds outside and dry, heated homes makes for our eyes very vulnerable to dryness. Airplanes, hotels and cars also all have low humidity, making for very uncomfortable winter travel. To help avoid your eyes from becoming overly dry and itchy, be sure to keep small bottles of artificial tears on hand to help ease any eye irritation and keep your eyes moist in dry situations.
Unfamiliar Cosmetic Gifts
One of the most exciting aspects of the holiday season is exchanging gifts with family. However, while that pretty smelling bottle of perfume from your aunt or expensive makeup set from your grandmother may be tempting to explore right away, be sure to always test new products on a small part of your body before using them as usual. You never know which products may cause an allergic reaction, especially when they are used around sensitive areas such as the eyes.
