Biography
Michael J. Richard, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in oculofacial plastic surgery. Dr. Richard has 14 years of experience in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and face.
Prior to joining OCLI, Dr. Richard practiced academic medicine at the Duke Eye Center. During his time there, he held assistant professor appointments in both the Department of Ophthalmology and the Department of Plastic Surgery. He currently maintains his appointment at Duke and travels there once a month to teach the residents and fellows.
Dr. Richard has written dozens of publications on the latest research and advances in eye care and has lectured around the world. His expertise covers a broad range of medical and surgical conditions, including cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery, blepharospasm, orbital tumors, tear duct obstruction, skin cancer, ocular surface cancer, thyroid eye disease, and orbital and facial trauma. In addition, Dr. Richard volunteers with the Himalayan Cataract Project, traveling to Ethiopia and sub-Saharan Africa twice each year to lecture and train ophthalmologists.
Dr. Richard also performs both surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures using lasers, injectable fillers (Restylane, Voluma, Belotero, Sculptra, Radiesse), and neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin).
