Phillip J. Calenda, M. D. is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist who taught cataract surgery for many years to ophthalmologists in training at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. In addition, Dr. Calenda is an attending physician at New York Presbyterian’s Hudson Valley Hospital, where he utilizes the most advanced technology in intraocular lenses and laser-assisted cataract surgery to help patients minimize their need for eyeglasses after surgery.
Dr. Calenda treats patients for a wide range of disorders, including cataracts, glaucoma, macular and retinal problems, eye infections, dry eye syndrome, and ocular manifestations of diabetes and high blood pressure.
Dr. Calenda completed his Ophthalmology Residency and his Transitional Internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Fordham University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the national honor society Phi Beta Kappa.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Calenda has lectured for the New York State Ophthalmological Society and his interviews have appeared in a wide range of magazines, newspapers and websites.
A former Medical and Surgical Director for various LASIK centers, Dr. Calenda brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his practice at OCLI. He has been in private practice for 26 years and has performed thousands of cataract surgeries and LASIK procedures.
Raised locally, Dr. Calenda and his family reside in Briarcliff Manor. In his spare time, he likes to travel, play tennis, and run.
