Here at OCLI, we strive to provide the best to our patients. This means constantly keeping up with the new advances in technology. LASIK surgery has come a very long way since its first procedure in 1990.
At OCLI, we use the most advanced LASIK technologies on the market: the iLASIK suite. During iLASIK, our doctors utilize a trio of different machines: CustomVue™ WaveScan, the Intralase Laser, and the VISX Star Excimer Laser.
CustomVue™ WaveScan
The CustomVue™ Wavescan machine is actually used prior to the LASIK procedure. Through the use of the CustomVue™ Wavescan machine, our doctors at OCLI are able to create a detailed map of the cornea. With this information, our doctors are able to devise a treatment plan so that results are completely customized to each patient. This information guides the excimer laser later on in the procedure.
The use of CustomVue™ Wavescan has revolutionized LASIK surgery. Our doctors are now able to treat a wider range of refractive errors, because the CustomVue™ Wavescan allows them to zero in on specific areas that need treatment. With this technology, your eye surgeon can reshape the cornea to each patient’s needs and specifications.
iDesign Advanced WaveScan System
This system acts as the “brain” during your LASIK procedure, allowing your surgeon to generate a high quality map of your eye with measurements of your corneal irregularities. The iDesign system as created to give patients an extra level of customization during their LASIK procedure, resulting in the best possible outcomes and incredible results.
The iDesign System captures more than 1,200 micro scans of the eye. The iDesign System also assist the surgeon in measuring the curvature and shape of the cornea and identifying how light passes through the eye and pupil diameter under certain lighting conditions. This information allows your surgeon at OCLI to perform LASIK surgery with your unique eyes in mind.
The Intralase® FS Laser
The Intralase® Femtosecond Laser is used during the second step in the iLASIK procedure. During this all laser procedure, the Intralase® FS Laser replaces the blade used during traditional LASIK surgery.
The Intralase® FS Laser is used to create a thin flap on the surface of the cornea. This femtosecond laser is widely regarded among refractive surgeons to be one of the best on the market, delivering excellent visual acuity and unmatched safety. OCLI surgeons prefer this method because of the high level of accuracy and customization it allows.
The VISX Star S4 IR® Excimer Laser
The STAR S4 IR® Excimer laser is responsible for the actual treatment of the eye. During LASIK, the excimer laser is used to make adjustments to the corneal shape using the specifications from the CustomVue® WaveScan component.
The VISX Star S4 IR® Excimer Laser is a state-of-the-art surgical laser that was developed with Hubble Telescope technology. The VISX Star S4 IR® Excimer Laser features the latest CustomVue® WaveScan technology and IRIS registration. The VISX Star S4 IR® Excimer Laser allows us to correct the smallest of corneal flaws, allowing for a more customized and detailed experience.
WaveLight® Allegretto Excimer Laser
The WaveLight® Allegretto Excimer Laser is an extremely advanced piece of technology that utilizes PerfectPulse Technology® for precise control and customization. The WaveLight® Allegretto Excimer Laser is widely accepted as one of the fastest and most accurate excimer lasers on the market today.
At OCLI, we are proud to offer this technology to our patients, as its accuracy allows surgeons to treat a wider range of refractive error. More patients are able to safely undergo LASIK surgery thanks to the WaveLight® Allegretto Excimer Laser. If you were previously told that you were not a candidate for LASIK due to a high level of refractive error, that may no longer be the case.
Studies have shown that after LASIK surgery with the WaveLight® Allegretto Excimer Laser, 93% of patients see at least 20/20 or better.
If you are curious about the technology used during iLASIK surgery at OCLI, our doctors are happy to discuss with you during your LASIK consultation! Call OCLI today for your comprehensive LASIK consultation.
