Biography
John Wittpenn, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in anterior segment disease. He has vast experience in refractive, corneal and cataract surgery. Dr. Wittpenn graduated summa cum laude from Amherst College with a bachelor’s degree in biophysics. He received his medical degree from the John Hopkins School of Medicine. After completing his ophthalmic residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Wittpenn served as a corneal clinical research fellow at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He was appointed director of ophthalmic residency training at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles County Medical Center. In 1988, Dr. Wittpenn joined the faculty at the State University of New York at Stony Brook as director of cornea, cataract and anterior segment surgery. He currently remains a clinical associate professor of ophthalmology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and is active in their ophthalmic residency-training program.
Dr. Wittpenn remains involved in clinical research and holds three patents for ophthalmic products licensed worldwide. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on advancements in his field.
