Biography
Marc E. Wietschner, M.D. is a Board-Certified Comprehensive Ophthalmologist with Expertise in the Treatment of Retinal Disease.
After graduating from the prestigious Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY, Dr. Wietschner completed a rigorous ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He then completed a Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, which focused on the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal vascular disease.
Dr. Wietschner has been practicing ophthalmology for over 25 years. Dr. Wietschner was nominated by his peers and enjoys the distinction of a Castle Connolly “Top Doctor.”
Dr. Wietschner has vast experience treating dry-eye syndrome, blepharitis, corneal disease, cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, as well as eye complications arising from medical conditions. He believes in utilizing the safest microsurgical techniques and has been employing small-incision no-stich techniques for cataract surgery to improve patient care. Dr. Wietschner also offers his patients a choice of refractive procedures and lenses to decrease dependence on glasses following cataract surgery. For patient convenience, Dr. Wietschner performs laser surgery for glaucoma, retinal disease, and “after-cataracts” in a dedicated in-office laser suite. Regularly, Dr. Wietschner attends ophthalmology meetings and keeps abreast of the latest ophthalmology literature.
During his time off, Dr. Wietschner cycles regularly and has competed in mutiple triathalon races. He is a regular participant in Century (100 + miles) Bike Ride Events for charities.
