Biography

Jonathan Noonan, MBBS PhD FRANZCO, is an Australian-trained ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Western Australia, where he received First Class Honors in Pharmacology. Dr. Noonan completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney. During medical school, he was the student President and received the Martin Kimmings Scholarship and the Geoff Hipwell Ophthalmology Prize. Dr. Noonan then earned his Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Melbourne studying light-induced retinal vasodilation in diabetes. He received a National Health and Medical Research Council Scholarship, a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Project Grant, and three international travel grants to support his doctoral studies. Dr. Noonan completed his ophthalmology residency at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, from 2019 to 2023. Following this, he moved to New York for the one-year Danny H.-Kauffmann Jokl, MD International Retina Fellowship at Columbia University. During his fellowship, he was awarded second place in the American Academy of Ophthalmology Young Ophthalmologist 1-Minute Video Contest, presented an abstract at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, and presented clinical cases at the OSN Retina and Atlantic Coast Retina Club meetings.

Dr. Noonan wants the best outcomes for his patients and keeps up to date with the latest developments in the fields of medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery. He has a particular interest in diabetic retinopathy and its treatments. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Outside of work, Dr. Noonan is a husband and father to three young children and loves every minute of it.
