Biography

Scott Uretsky, M.D. is a fellowship-trained neuro-ophthalmologist and board-certified neurologist (a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology). He focuses on the clinical practice of neuro-ophthalmology, specializing in the diagnosis and management of visual disorders of the optic nerve and brain, as well as diseases affecting eye movements (e.g. double vision), the cranial nerves, the orbit, and face. These include pathologies of neurologic, ophthalmic, and systemic origins. Dr. Uretsky is experienced in the development and use of gene therapies for the treatment of hereditary diseases of the retina and optic nerve (retinal ganglion cells).

His practice focuses on delivering compassionate, state-of-the-art diagnosis and management of a broad range of visual symptoms related to the afferent and efferent visual systems. Examples include optic neuritis from MS and other inflammatory optic nerve disorders, ischemia (stroke) optic neuropathies (including NAION and giant cell arteritis), hereditary optic nerve disorders (LHON and DOA), as well as visual difficulties related to abnormal brain function, as occurs in Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke. Benign masses and cancers affecting the visual pathways are cared for (e.g. pituitary tumor, meningioma), including paraneoplastic diseases and other visual complications of systemic cancers. Double vision from numerous causes is diagnosed and managed. Other illnesses include cranial nerve palsies (e.g. Bell’s palsy), thyroid-related eye disorders, ocular myasthenia gravis, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, nystagmus, and abnormal pupillary findings. Dr. Uretsky uses botulinum toxin injections for the successful treatment of blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, aberrant regeneration of the facial nerve, and Meige syndrome and other facial dystonias.

At OCLI, Dr. Uretsky is able to provide top of the line diagnostic testing, including high-definition, spectral-domain Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), multi-color fundus photography, state-of-the-art perimetry, and other diagnostic modalities including multimodal imaging of the fundus, in conjunction with his retina colleagues. His physician colleagues at OCLI, including comprehensive and sub-specialty ophthalmologists, afford him the ability to provide comprehensive vision care for his patients. Dr. Uretsky’s academic collaborations, extensive network of physician colleagues in general and sub-specialty neurology, as well other community physician specialists, allow him to fully manage the complex pathologies presenting to the neuro-ophthalmologist’s office.
